ROUTE 28 TO LOSE ELECTRIC BUSES FOR DIESELS

Route 28 (Wandsworth – Kensal Rise) will pass from London Transit to Metroline West in May. Although the current contract, which has been surrendered early (Look in on London September 2023), specifies the use of hybrid buses it has recently been largely operated using battery-electric Optare Metrodecker EVs made spare by the loss of route C3 (Earls Court – Clapham Junction) and frequency reductions on the 23 (Westbourne Park –Aldwych). The new contract will see these vehicles replaced by diesel buses.

Seven-year contracts have been awarded to Stagecoach to continue operating three north east London routes, which will all be subject to alteration, from September. Route W12 (Walthamstow –Wanstead) will be revised to run between Walthamstow and Woodford Bridge at a higher frequency than at present. It will, however, be rerouted away from Walthamstow Village. This is at the request of the London Borough of Waltham Forest to meet their public realm aspirations for area even though it means that a number of households will be more than 500 metres from a bus stop.
