PRESERVATION UPDATE: Coronavirus ravages rally season

Government advice on controlling the coronavirus pandemic brought this year’s rally season to an abrupt halt in mid-March, with the widespread cancellation of rallies and running days into June and the temporary closure of museums.

The situation escalated between last month’s Buses and 2020/21 Museum & Rally Guide being printed and going on sale. The South East Bus Festival, the London Bus Museum’s Spring Gathering, the Cumbria Easter Rally, events at the Sandtoft Trolleybus Museum and Wythall Transport Museum and in Oxford, Dorking, Manchester and Lincoln were cancelled at short notice.

The London Transport Museum, London Bus Museum, Manchester Museum of Transport, North West Museum of Road Transport, Sandtoft Trolleybus Museum, British Commercial Vehicle Museum, Beamish Museum, Isle of Wight Bus Museum, Scottish Vintage Bus Museum, Glasgow Riverside Museum, Ulster Folk & Transport Museum and the Amberley, Canvey Island, Dover, Dundee, Ipswich, Lincoln, Scarborough Fair, South Yorkshire and Wirral transport museums have all closed until further notice.
