Warrington rebrands as town’s own buses

The delivery of a new fleet of Alexander Dennis Enviro200 MMCs sees the first new buses for Warrington Borough Transport for five years, when six diesel-engined Optare Versas entered service.

Eight of the new buses are branded for the recently launched Cheshire Cat group routes, which serve the south of the town, and include the longer distance services to Northwich and Altrincham, while the other five introduce a new brand identity for the council-owned company, changing its trading name from Network Warrington to Warrington’s Own Buses.

The Cheshire Cat brand was launched at the timetable change on 9 April, although none of the new buses had arrived then. Changes included a revision of the Altrincham routes, the traditional route 5 (now Cat5) via Dunham remaining the same, but a new route Cat5A, travelling via Partington, replaces the 35 via Broomedge.

At the same time, the two Northwich routes, 45 and 46, were re-numbered Cat9 and Cat9A. These date back to the original North Western Road Car Company (as its 135 and 136) and became 45 and 46 when they passed jointl…
