The UK’s biggest rally was back in the East Midlands, with a vehicle selection that included a large-scale tribute to the 110-year-old Plaxton coach brand. Next year’s date has already been announced.

Showbus seems to be settling well into its new home at Donington Park, the venue next to the motor racing circuit close to East Midlands Airport and the M1.

The UK’s biggest bus and coach rally — for modern and preserved vehicles — tried it out last year after struggling to find a south-east England venue to replace its long-term presence at the Duxford museum near Cambridge. For its return this year, on 17 September, organiser Martin Isles and his team addressed the main concerns that visitors raised in 2016.

There were far more catering and toilet facilities this time, and vehicle parking and display arrangements were organised efficiently for the entry of around 250 vehicles that came from near and far and wide. A highlight this year was an impressive array of Plaxton products old and new to mark the coachbuilder’s 110th anniversary.

And photographers now know where to capture the best views of vehicles arriving and departing in perfect light.
