Of all the fancy new features on Nottingham City Transport’s first 30 biogas double-deckers, one has gone unreported until now. There has been plenty to say about the low emissions of their Scania chassis and the use of glass to light up the interiors of their Alexander Dennis Enviro400 City bodies, but John Whittingham — alerted by an NCT driver — has sent this picture showing a worthwhile addition to the information displayed on the rear destination display.

‘It has long been the case that when someone lets a bus pull out from a stop in front of them, the bus driver gives a thumbs up from his cab signalling window,’ says John.

‘But the new biogas buses have a nice feature to achieve this in a more easily seen manner. The driver has a button to his left which, when pushed, causes the rear destination to alter temporarily — for about 3sec — to say thank you in words. Push to activate, no need to push to cancel, as it automatically times out.’

More stops that miss their finest point
