603 is one of only 25 short (S) Bristol Small Underfloor chassis built - 16 of which started service with Western and Southern National, the others with Bristol Omnibus: 3 SUS are in preservation. In all 181 SUs were produced between 1960 and 1966 all with ECW bodywork. There were 156 of the longer (L) version, 38 of which were built as coaches. All the SUs had ECW bodies and were originally powered by 4 cylinder Albion cylinder Perkins by West Yorkshire Road Car Co. After working from Totnes, Penzance and Helston 603 was sold in 1972 to Norths, Sherburn in Elmet; then to Beedon, a contractor before spending some 27 years with the Spurgeon Tabernacle in Elephant and Castle. 603 moved into preservation in 2000. Acquired by the present owner in January 2012 603 entered Gaydon last year and has been to various bus events including Bewdley, Brislington, Cobham, Exeter, Kingsbridge, Lincoln, London to Brighton, Oxford, Penzance, Peterborough, the Thames Valley 100 and Wythall.
