JOHN YOUNG spends three days experiencing one of the UK’s most scenic bus networks

The prospect of a journey through parts of the Blazefield empire had appealed for some time. A plan was put together based around a Skipton start and finish, with a couple of nights in Malton. A date was set, and we duly found ourselves in Skipton bus station shortly after 08:00 on Thursday, August 24 with time to observe some early morning arrivals prior to boarding our first bus.

Transdev subsidiaries were represented by a Burnley Bus Company Optare Versa on Mainline service M6 and three offerings from the Keighley Bus Company – an Optare Solo SR on the 72 from Grassington and double-deckers from Ilkley (service 64) and Keighley (service 66). The 64 disappears out of service and the Solo changes to the 64, which is to be our first trip of the day. Passenger numbers were light on most trips, although on a school day it would be a different story.
