Stagecoach SW’s Williams to head Reading Buses

Robert Williams
Martijn Gilbert

Stagecoach South West commercial director Robert Williams is returning to his home town to succeed Martijn Gilbert as chief executive officer at Reading Buses from 1 October, following Gilbert’s appointment as managing director of Go North East (Buses July).

He joined the industry in 1999 as a conductor with Reading Mainline, the Routemaster operator by then owned by Reading Transport, and has been with Stagecoach since 2003 when he became commercial officer at Oxford. He went on to become commercial manager there and has held the Exeter-based South West post since 2012.

Reading Buses chair David Sutton says: ‘Robert emerged as the strongest candidate from a very strong field of applicants. I am delighted that he is returning home to Reading to take on this role and I look forward very much to working with him to ensure that Reading Buses continues to go from strength to strength in the future.’
