Five cover London in 24hr

Transport enthusiasts have long felt compelled to collect sets of things, maybe photographing every vehicle in a favourite fleet or ticking off every fleetnumber in a list.

Five young Londoners recently undertook their ambitious modern day equivalent. They were determined to ride every one of London’s 593 routes — night buses included — within the space of 24hr, and after a false start last July when they ‘only’ caught 564 routes, they managed it between midnight on 6 September and midnight on 7 September. They have produced a film to prove it.

Armed with head cameras, notebooks, mobile phones and the level of stamina required to remain alert for nearly 48hr without a proper sleep in their own beds, they set off from London Bridge, also using Tramlink, London Overground and parts of the Underground to link routes. A journey they achieved in places by running breathlessly between stops, sometimes missing a tight connection.
