Metroline makes gains

Go-Ahead and Tower Transit lose routes in north and east

Recent tendered service contract awards will see Metroline gain work at the expense of Go-Ahead London General and Tower Transit, while Sullivan Buses will also continue its growth in north London.

Route 30 (Marble Arch-Hackney Wick) will transfer from Tower Transit to Metroline in June, bringing the operator into parts of east London that it does not currently serve.

Some of the vehicles used on the route will be redeployed to the D8 (Crossharbour-Stratford), which will pass from Go-Ahead London General to Tower Transit later in the year. This will see the route return to Lea Interchange garage after seven years and the Go-Ahead subsidiary will also no longer operate route D6 (Crossharbour- Cambridge Heath).

Metroline will additionally assume operation of routes 231 (Enfield Chase- Turnpike Lane) and 491 (Waltham Cross-West Middlesex Hospital) from London General in June. Buses for route 231 will be drawn from those made surplus by cuts on other routes.

The daytime frequency on route 491 will reduce from every 17min to one every 20min. Sullivan Buses will take over the off-peak routes 389 and 399 (Barnet-Western Way/ Hadley Wood)…
