Go-Ahead expands with big Cornwall contract win

Plymouth Citybus has won an eight-year contract starting 29 March, requiring 130 additional vehicles to run all 73 of Cornwall Council’s supported routes – around 50% of the county’s network – and 71 integrated school services.

The Go-Ahead subsidiary will expand its existing Go Cornwall Bus operations in east Cornwall as part of the council’s One Public Transport System for Cornwall project to enhance services with better rail links and reduced fares, taking it west of Truro for the first time.

The Transport for Cornwall partnership aims to show nationally how rural services should be delivered.

Plymouth Citybus will acquire 100 new Alexander Dennis buses – mostly Enviro200 single-deckers – to be maintained by engineering partner Corserv, owned by Cornwall Council, which will also provide depot space. Staff are being recruited in Truro, Newquay, Scorrier, Helston, Liskeard, Bude, Bodmin, Falmouth and Launceston.

A £500 bonus is being offered to drivers not already at Plymouth Citybus or future partners, as some services will be subcontracted to smaller operators.
