The winner is the Plaxton Panorama on six-wheel Volvo B11RLE chassis, the first UK-built double-deck luxury coach for nearly 30 years.
Plaxton worked closely with launch customer Stagecoach to develop the Panorama to start replacing its fleet of Van Hool Astromega double-deckers on Megabus and some high profile regional express services. It has also sold it to independent operators.
Stagecoach liked the reliability and fuel economy of the Volvo B11R chassis and Volvo developed the low-floor B11RLE for the Panorama, mainly to achieve good wheelchair accessibility but also to make space for overhead luggage racks in the lower deck.
