Carr to retire from Go North East

Go North East managing director Kevin Carr is to retire after a 43-year career with the company. ‘It is with great sadness that I leave Go North East, but I feel it is time for someone else to lead,’ he says. ‘I am privileged to have seen the business change and grow into the wellestablished and much-loved company it is today.’ Group chief executive David Brown says: ‘With his expert understanding of transport and standing in the north-east business community, Kevin has been a strong leader for Go North East. He leaves behind him a fantastic legacy, great culture and strong management team which will continue its successful work.’

As chair of Neboa, the North-East Bus Operators’ Association, he has helped shape transport policy and played a prominent role in campaigning against the proposal by passenger transport executive Nexus to reregulate bus services in Tyne & Wear through a quality contract regime. Carr joined the then state-owned Northern General Transport in 1975 as an apprentice engineer, progressing to technical engineer, works manager, assistant engineer in 1986, general manager of three of the subsidiary companies created when Go-Ahead broke it into smaller units in 1992 and subsequently operations director.
