Branding adds realism at Kirkby open day

PRESERVATION UPDATE

Some of the vehicles in action at the North West Vehicle Restoration Trust’s open day at Kirkby on 2 June revealed the recent addition of authentic fleetnames, logos and route branding to make their restoration more complete.

Ex-Wallasey Corporation 1959 Leyland Atlantean PDR1/1 6 (FHF 456) has had Merseyside PTE logos and fleetnumber 206 applied to the Wirral blue and cream livery of its Metro-Cammell body, a colour scheme that combined the main elements of the Birkenhead and Wallasey undertakings when the PTE absorbed them at its formation in 1969. Representing more recent times, 1995 Wright Endurance-bodied Volvo B10B-58 6538 (M538 WHF) has had Merseybus fleetnames and branding for south Liverpool route 86 added to its MTL Trust Holdings livery. It was part of the employee-owned ex- PTE company’s final intake of step-entrance single-deckers.

Also now adorned with fleetnames is F456 BKF, a 1989 Northern Counties-bodied Leyland Olympian that was among 10 bought new by Fareway Passenger Services, a company set up in 1986 by four redundant ex-PTE drivers and kept independent until MTL acquired it in 1993.
