Wrightbus is protecting UK jobs by building two newly announced double-deck orders from Hong Kong at its new factory in Ballymena.
It has secured orders for 213 vehicles from the major operators in the Chinese territory, where it has supplied almost 1,500 doubledeckers — all on Volvo chassis — since 2001. Many have been assembled locally but these are all being built at the new Gracehill complex on a site vacated by cigarette manufacturer Japan Tobacco International. These also are its first being built for Hong Kong to the Gemini 3 design with so-called ‘stealth’ front. Volvo now meets orders for tri-axle chassis in the Far East with its inlineengined Euro6 B8L chassis.
