Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire has devised a separate non-corporate livery for up to 14 schoolbuses in its fleet.
The School Runner-branded vehicles are being painted out of national fleet colours over the summer holiday period and painted overall red reminiscent of the erstwhile Cumberland Motor Services, which operated in much of the area.
First vehicle painted is one of the oldest in Stagecoach service, Alexander PS-bodied Volvo B10M-55 20712 (K712 DAO) from a larger fleet purchased 25 years ago to relaunch city services in Carlisle and refurbished more recently with 63 belted seats for children.
It plans to apply the livery to five of these single-deckers and to nine double-deckers — five Volvo Olympians and four ex-London Dennis Tridents.
