ALAN MILLAR learns the inside story of a remarkable project that has seen Lothian Buses’ skilled craftsmen strip down and rebuild a fleet of vintage London double-deckers, restore them to original liveries and make them available for private hires, commercial promotions and summer sightseeing tours. The scene inside Seafield Works in April, as re-roofed former Green Line Routemasters RCL2241 and RCL2248 are transformed back to original condition.

It may look like a modest, even anonymous industrial building from the outside, but within its walls on the east side of Edinburgh arguably the biggest reconstruction and refurbishment of ex-London Transport Routemasters is being undertaken since Aldenham works did this on an industrial scale.
