Further to the article about Transport for London setting safety standards (Look in on London last month), as a former bus driver and later an instructor, I have discussed the pros and cons of speed limiters with my colleagues. There seems to be general agreement that they are good in theory, but in practice they can be dangerous. There are times when it becomes necessary to exceed the speed limit for short distances to overtake safely.
