Buses appear to have shot up the political agenda with Boris Johnson’s election as prime minister. The former mayor of London included the improvement of local bus networks in a range of policy objectives that he highlighted in a speech in Manchester on 27 July in which he pledged to back Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham’s plans to exercise more control over the network, either through franchising or a deep partnership
