Launch orders from Stagecoach have given the UK’s last large luxury coach manufacturer the confidence to add a double-decker and a low-floor interurban model to its ever more comprehensive range, as ALAN MILLAR reports from its factory in Scarborough

Within 12 months of promising as much, Alexander Dennis has added two more niche products to its Plaxton coach range in moves that ought to strengthen its leadership of the body-on-chassis coach market in the UK and provide chassis partner Volvo with a sporting chance of maintaining its wafer thin leadership over Mercedes-Benz.

Both new additions — a double-decker reviving the Panorama model name and the Panther LE low-entry single-decker — have won launch orders from Stagecoach, whose chairman, co-founder and major shareholder Sir Brian Souter also has a substantial shareholding in Alexander Dennis.
