PASSENGER FOCUS, YOUR BUS JOURNEY AND THE £2 FARE

This month I have analysed some results from ‘Your Bus Journey’, and attempted to correlate those results to the £2 fare cap, one of the most significant recent interventions by government in the bus industry. What’s surprised me is there has been no attempt to analyse its success or otherwise by the DfT or Bus Centre of Excellence, a misnomer if ever there was one.

Passenger Focus is a quango that provides passenger satisfaction surveys for the rail industry. I never saw the point of these. I used to travel regularly on the Midland Main Line, which was near the top. How good any particular railway company was would be obvious to the regular traveller by the treatment received. One disrupted journey in my seven years of travel obviously put MML in the top category.
