The premise of these colour picture albums is an attractive one. Pictures of buses and coaches taken in a single year are arranged geographically from north to south, in this case in 1979 at points between the Isle of Skye and Plymouth, and set in the context of the year’s major news events and popular culture. The premise of these colour picture albums is an attractive one. Pictures of buses and coaches taken in a single year are arranged geographically from north to south, in this case in 1979 at points between the Isle of Skye and Plymouth, and set in the context of the year’s major news events and popular culture.

Most of this selection was taken by Greg Booth (no relation of any bus writer Booth with first name beginning G) and the late Bob Gell in whose memory the book is dedicated. I suspect that the originals are better than the published result — digital scanning these days can work marvels in capturing the correct exposure and sharpness — but 109 pictures from over 40 years ago for just £8 is good value for money. And at such a low price one should not necessarily expect much pre-production enhancement.
