Mayor’s 25-year plan

Suburban expansion, zero emissions and safety in Khan’s blueprint

LOOK IN ON LONDON

All London buses should be zeroemission within 20 years and outer suburban services will be greatly expanded, says mayor Sadiq Khan in his draft transport strategy published on 21 June.

He says a shift away from polluting vehicles is key to delivering a greener and healthier city whose population is projected to grow from 8.7million to 10.5million over 25 years, generating an additional 5million daily journeys by 2041.

The concept of ‘healthy streets’ will support buses by reasserting the priority of walking, cycling and public transport over private vehicle use, and taking an integrated approach to planning these complementary modes.
