Mayor launches first LEBZ in Putney

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan launched the first low emission bus zone in Putney High Street on 9 March.

Seven Go-Ahead London General and London United routes operate through it, and all the vehicles used on them now meet Euro6 emission standards. Improved bus priorities should also help minimise delays and reduce pollution caused by buses sitting in traffic.

Khan says that nitrogen dioxide levels in the area exceeded permitted levels on 1,248 occasions during 2016, compared to the 18 permitted by European Union rules. He also reiterated his call for government to introduce a national diesel scrappage fund and give him powers to tackle other sources of air pollution.

The second LEBZ, in Brixton, will be introduced in September, with another 10 following by 2020.
