Jim Stones set a standard few seem able to match

I visited Leigh on 25 January to see once more the impressive operation of Jim Stones. This smart operation run by Jim and his wife Joan has been part of the local scene for 33 years.

The Stones operate eight Alexander Dennis Enviro200s, the oldest of which is only six years old. Until very recently, all carried Select registrations with appropriate messages, for example BUS 1T or BU52 LEE.

I was taken with just how smart the buses and drivers were. Nothing new here, you may say, as this has indeed always been the case, but with news of imminent closure, if a buyer cannot be found, it is even more impressive.

Never have I seen one of their buses not in full livery with fleetnames. Never have I seen a dirty bus, bent panels or a scruffy driver. Many other operators, large and small, could learn much from this operator who delivers a quality product day in, day out.
