Although Ireland authorised two-axle 30ft double-deckers in 1946, state-owned Coras Iompair Éireann (CIÉ) had to wait ten years for Britain to catch up before it could take full advantage.

Most of the Leyland Titans that it purchased up to 1958 were export model OPD2s, which at 27ft 6in were 6in longer than the home market PD2. The 30ft PD3 changed that, and is the subject of this second volume of Ed O’Neill’s history of CIÉ’s Titans, the first having covered the RP and R classes bought between 1931 and 1958 (Reviews, January). He is preparing another book on the 840 rear-engined Atlanteans bought in the 1960s and 1970s.
