PRESERVATION UPDATE
One of the last Ikarus-bodied buses supplied to the UK has returned to Hungary for exhibition in the Transport Museum in Budapest.
Arriva Yorkshire 58 (YD02 RJJ) was one of 11 Ikarus Polarisbodied DAF SB220s that the Arriva Bus & Coach dealership imported in 2001, based on the Ikarus 489 design and built at the Mátyásföld factory in eastern Budapest.
All 11 went to operators in the north of England, this and YD02 RJO going to Aztecbird of Guiseley for the 757 route between Leeds city centre and Leeds Bradford Airport. Blue Bus of Horwich took seven, while the other two went to Tyrer of Trawden. The Aztecbird pair entered service in April and May 2002, with the preserved example being the seventh built out of the 11 and the seventh into service.
It joined the Arriva Yorkshire fleet in 2004, operating latterly from Dewsbury depot where it was withdrawn last summer.
