First Bus has introduced a new uniform for drivers across its UK subsidiaries and will issue it to staff over the coming months.

It says it recognised a need to update its uniform and provide all its drivers, women in particular, with a more modern and comfortable wardrobe, and consulted with employees to find out how it could be improved.

The results include tailored blouses for women, body warmers, new trainer-style shoes and an innovative ‘sholo’ (shirt meets polo) top, with First Bus thought to be only the second company to introduce this garment in the UK. The updated blouses for women include hidden modesty buttons.

First Bus managing director Giles Fearnley says: ‘Our drivers are our ambassadors, so it is important that they not only look the part but their uniform is comfortable and functional to wear. The uniform has already been trialled in depots across the UK and has received positive feedback from colleagues.’
