The bus fleet at Newport Transport is in the process of a complete overhaul, with 16 electric vehicles now in operation and a further 16 on the way. JAMES DAY speaks to managing director Scott Pearson about the operator’s electric journey

NEWPORT TRANSPORT

Newport Transport aspires to be one of the first bus operators in the UK to run exclusively electric vehicles. This agenda is being pushed forward further by the Welsh government, which has its own ambitions to see Wales using a fully zero emission bus fleet by 2028.

The operator’s managing director, Scott Pearson, is a keen advocate of electric buses, as well as the Yutong platform. All the electric vehicles currently in service with the operator, along with a further 16 on order, are Yutong buses.
