As Brexit takes effect, KEITH JENKINSON recalls when he took part in a unique international classic vehicle run to mark the UK’s entry into today’s European Union in January 1973

With specially prepared destination boards, Keith Jenkinson was ready to drive JUB 29, his Keighley-West Yorkshire Leyland Titan TD2, away from London at the start of the Drive into Europe.
As the transition period comes to an end and the UK finally leaves the European Union on 31 December 2020, I am reminded of a celebration event in which I participated 47 years ago, in January 1973, five days after the country joined what then was the European Economic Community, better known by many as the Common Market.
