David Harvey’s name is synonymous with books like this about the buses of his native Birmingham and West Midlands, picture albums in which the captions tell much more than what is visible in the photographs.

He also will long be associated with the bus that adorns the cover, his pride and joy, 1950 Birmingham City Transport Crossley DD42/6 2489 (JOJ 489) which has been in preservation since shortly after it came out of service in 1969 and is the only surviving Birmingham Crossley. He was two years old when it was new.
