The UK’s biggest bus operator has experienced several rollercoaster rides in its near 40-year history. Twenty years ago, with City investors urging it to expand into many modes of transport in many countries and continents, Stagecoach’s shares were riding high with a market capitalisation of around £3billion. Its ambition then was to double it to £6billion by 2002.
