John Young found another link with the industry’s past on a recent walk around Rotherham.
This is the Rotherham Transport Employees’ Sports & Social Club, a facility with a history clearly predating the transfer of the town’s municipal bus service to the newly formed South Yorkshire PTE in 1974, which is adjacent to the Midland Road depot just closed by First. This is a bit of a historic transport enclave, for John says that equally close in the opposite direction is the former Masbrough railway station, still passed by trains but closed and looking rather forlorn.
